Hybrid PhysX mod 1.02: 195.xx drivers and Win XP support

with 23 comments

GenL has released updated mod for hybrid PhysX systems – now it works with recent 195.xx GeForce drivers and supports Windows XP/2003

- added support for new checks in 195.xx drivers
- added support for XP/2003 drivers
- both x86 and x64 are supported by a single mod now

Notes about the mod:
- Both x86 and x64 are supported by a single file now. If you are using x86 OS, you should just skip patching 64-bit binaries (press No when asked for a search).
- Don’t forget that you must be able to access nvidia control panel. For this connect nvidia GPU to the second input port of your monitor – physically or virtually (i don’t know if this is possible), or any other way you find. There are community-generated tutorials for this, i can’t tell anything because i own only 1 GPU.
- Lite version may come later, if needed. Additionally, i can fix errors if you find them and release it with an update.

Notes about XP/2003 support:
- Only 195.62 drivers are tested for XP/2003 case. I can’t say anything about earlier versions, i didn’t even try them.
- It should work for XP/2003 x64 editions too, would be great if anyone will confirm.
- It will work for 2000 only if original XP/2003 package supports it.

Update #2: 1.02 mod is working with new 196.21 drivers.

Update: #4: 1.02 mod is not working properly with 196.75 drivers.

In addition, original post contains mod for PhysX drivers 9.09.30, that allows to use original Ageia PPU with ATI cards.

Please use commentaries to this post or thread at NGHQ forums to report errors, if they’ll occur. Reports with positive results are also appreciated.

  2. I know I already posted this to the main thread, but I’ll leave this here as well:

Tried the winxp patch with the newest nvidia drivers and no luck. (XP 64, sapphire 4870 + evga 8600gt)

It seems that it’s looking for the .dll in odd places in XP64. nvapi64.dll is in the wow64 folder (the patch tries to find it in a different folder. I tried to work around it by copying it to another folder, patching it, and replacing the old file, but I have no idea if that works since the program does not find nvapi.dll no matter what I do. It looks like the patch program looks for windowsnative or some folder like that).

  3. Under 7×64 this seems to work but I can’t get CUDA to work. http://img683.imageshack.us/img683/7527/mixed.png

  4. Agua, it wasn’t tested on XP x64.
The mod is indeed using sysnative environment to access system folder. I read in microsoft artiles that sysnative should be supported in both 2003 x64 and XP x64, that’s why i thought it would work fine.
Anyway, you may try to point to the files manually when the mod asks for them.

decayed.cell, CUDA is being used for PhysX – so it works, and it is silly to judge by GPU-Z app only.

  5. Hmm must be a problem with this particular configuration and Badaboom then

  6. GenL,

Thanks for the response. Here is the interesting thing: when the program asks for file location manually, it does not find nvapi64.dll. It finds nvapi.dll (which is in the SysWOW64 folder and not the system32 folder–and I triple checked to make sure I was directing the program to the correct folder), but it cannot find nvapi64.dll in the System32 folder, even though I have confirmed that nvapi64.dll is located there. Even if I select “all files” in the drop-down menu, nvapi64 does not exist on that list, which is really confusing.

I can send screenshots if you want just in case I’m doing something wrong. Any other thoughts? Thank you for working on this. It made B:AA so much more fun.

  8. DO NOT USE MOD 1.02. IT CONTAINS THE Infostealer.Gampass VIRUS.

Yeah, some antivirus programs doesn’t like it. GenL’s answer: “This is just dumb that some antivirus is not familiar with freeware executable packers (which are around for a few years already).”
Thousand of people are using this mod, and I haven’t heard that it’s doing any harm, so I guess it’s OK.

  10. GenL,

So, I just discovered something. I’m googling the issue now, but I’ve come up dry so far. Apparently, when using any of the “open dialog” boxes, when you double click on ‘windows\system32\’ it actually opens up the folder ‘windows\syswow64\’. I’m having trouble with other issues at the moment that highlighted this. If you know anything about this issue, just let me know.

  11. If I understand this correctly (which I might not), you might have to disable the WOW64 redirection that happens on x64 OSes. If you’ve already coded that in, then I’m at a loss.

(I’d tried this hotfix, but it has not worked thus far: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/942589).

  12. This mod works very well with my GTX260+HD5870/Win7×64 setup – all respect to GenL. Avast detected it as malware but like most AV software false positives are fairly common – it’s now on it’s list of exceptions and I’ve still got no virus problems after a couple of months, as I expected. Good work!

  13. I applied the patch did the changes and ran the nvidia physx screensaver, all is fine, but…
I installed the bench of dark void and can only activate low physx settings due to the lack of an nvidia card?
    Genli? Any suggestions?

Dark Void benchmark only allows to use Low PhysX settings. High and Medium – in full game.

  15. I figured that something like that could happen,so i also installed mirro’s edge with physX on.
The game was crawling….frame by frame everytime a glass broke..

Mirror’s Edge isn’t working very well with hybrids. Try to delete PhysXDevice.dll file (backup it previously) in ME installation directory, this may help.

You can also check Batman: AA Demo, Cryostasis playble demo, Darkest of Days Demo to verify if your hybrid is working fine

  20. As Ksaplostra says, to run Mirrors Edge with hardware PhysX you need to delete the files PhysXCore.dll and PhysXDevice.dll from \Mirror’s Edge\Binaries\PhysXLocal\
Don’t delete PhysXLoader.dll – I found this out from another forum and get a steady 60fps with PhysX enabled and everything maxed out at 1920×1080 (except with Antialiasing on 4x)

  21. I recently bought a 5870 and I have an old 9800GTX lying about, is there a guide here explaining exactly what I have to do to get this working because I don’t really want to mess about with things I don’t have full knowledge of.

    Thank you

There are enough guides, like this one.
