GPU Rigid Bodies in pictures

with 7 comments

Recently, we got a chance to lay our hands on a bunch of high-resolution, never-seen-before screenhots from Art Gallery demo – it was used by NVIDIA to demonstrate APEX Destruction capabilities at GDC 2011.

For you viewing pleasure.

Art Gallery demo is featuring full-scale hardware acceleration of Rigid Body physics simulation (GPU Rigid Bodies, GRB) – we are hoping to see it live in APEX 1.1 and November/December UDK.

  1. Why GPU rigid bodies demo (download) isn’t released for public yet about almost 9 months despite good performance and no problems??? :S

It should ? Some demos are for internal use/demostrations only (like Lighthouse demo).

Also, GPU rigid bodies are not available yet in public APEX or UDK, maybe NVIDIA will include Art Gallery map as an example, who knows.

  3. Doeas Arkham City have GPU RB and is the release timing somthing to do with a deal in relation to that?

I believe it does have it, but also I don’t think that GRB’s are somehow connected with release delays.
Arkham Asylum was using experimental GRB alpha-code, but now solver is stable for a year or so (I mean, I tried it myself).

  6. Almost 1 year now and no Art gallery map. I don’t understand why they’re even showing this if they’re not intend to release it. Obviously everyone wants to try it.
Would it hurt the company or make the time-space continuum collapse if they’re give us this map?

Obviously, to showcase a capabilities of APEX Destruction module in a more game-like environment.

As I heard, the plan was to add Gallery map to UDK destribution, so it may appear in October/November/Whatever release or.. never.
