Modded GeForce drivers: unlocked PhysX for Radeon ?

with 21 comments

It seems that some enthusiasts are trying to bypass ATI (for Graphics) + Nvidia (for PhysX) hybrid configurations blockage using modified drivers.

We’ll try to keep an eye on all developments and update this post accordingly.

Update #4: New 1.02 mod – now with 195.xx drivers and WinXP support – it’s recommended to prefer this one over 1.01 mod.

Probe #1: Modded 190.62 WinXP 32-bit drivers (useless)

Report: “Someone just took old files (from 185.68) and changed their resources and version info, to make it look similar to real 190.62. Needless to say, this doesn’t give you real 190.62 with all fixes and changes.”
GenL, NGOHQ forums.

Probe #2: PhysX Mod 1.01 x86 (not available) and PhysX Mod 1.01 x64 (not available) by GenL

(no support for 195.xx drivers currently)

NVIDIA GeForce driver 19x.xx PhysX mod [x86/x64] v1.01

This mod will enable hardware PhysX support for NVIDIA GPU, when non-NVIDIA GPU
is used as a primary display device.
- intended only for WDDM 1.1 OS (Windows 7).
- only for multi-vendor multi-GPU configurations.

Mod discussion at NGOHQ forums.

Update: Video, showcasing this Mod in the work.

Update #2: Officical Nvidia position on hybrid ATI+NV PhysX configurations.

Update #3: How to set ATI+NV hybrid setup guide

Please use comments if you want to report certain driver’s efficiency/uselessness

  5. its working. pretty nicely i can say.
GF220 is around 3x faster than Ageia PPU.
I tested it in Sacred 2 for egzample.
it was barely playable on ageia, expectially in mountains.
only problem is in batman, i was unable to force maximy level of acceleration, nor dynamic environment.
so game was deleted as waste of time :)

  7. Tried the winxp patch with the newest nvidia drivers and no luck. (XP 64, sapphire 4870 + evga 8600gt)

It seems that it’s looking for the .dll in odd places in XP64. nvapi64.dll is in the wow64 folder (the patch tries to find it in a different folder. I tried to work around it by copying it to another folder, patching it, and replacing the old file, but I have no idea if that works since the program does not find nvapi.dll no matter what I do. It looks like the patch program looks for windowsnative or some folder like that.) Any chance you could just make the file a 7z/zip/rar and include the modded files with a readme for the folder tree?

  9. 1234123 I can recommend to use 1.02 drivers (link above) instead of old 1.01, but – why not ? reuploaded.

  10. The modded PhysXDevice.dll (PhysX-mod-PPU-1.0.rar) works great on my machine:

Vista Home Premium x64 with PhysX 909.08.14
Two ATI Radeon HD 3850 Cards as Crossfire
Ageia PhysX (PPU)100 Series PCI Express Card

Batman Arkham Asylum v1.1 PhysX will fly like the wind.

  11. Hello,
I have a similar problem as “aqua” 07 dec 2009!.
When I cake the patch (version 1.02) I get the remark that it can’t find the nvapi64.dll ???!.
The nvapi.dll is present in de system32-file! The nvapi64.dll is nowhere to be found!!
I use a WinXP 32-bits system with the combination of a Radeon 4870 and a Geforce 9600GT (as is used as example in PCGames Hardware 01/2010).
Who can help me to solve this problem??

  12. nice job

well, i have asus m3n ht deluxe, phenon II x4 940 and hd 5850, if possible put a onboard vga for physics and HD 5850 for grafics?????????

if possible put a onboard vga
Onboards GPUs are not supported. You can use low-end (9600GT, GT240) dedicated GPU instead

  14. right,

with the same way that you’ve unlocked phyx for ati, ya might try a driver to unlock the onboard gpu to do hybrid crossfire with any off board ati…so
examples “hd 5800+4200″ “hd 4800+3200″ possible?

Afaik, currently mod does not have such functionality. But you can leave such suggestion for GenL, mod creator, here

  16. Is there any new versions availible soon? Or project just freezing during support problems with the latest physx drivers & common nv driver 197.41 WHQL? I mean that is maybe you could discover and find some actually tweaks or something, to avoid this incompabilty issues in latest nvidia drivers? If it’s possible, are you working on that?

You are working on PhysX SDK based project on Hybrid system ? Interesting :)
Meanwhile, new version of PhysX mod should be ready in a week or so, according to GenL

For example, a HD5870+GT240 ,i only saw reviews with directX10 games.
