Hybrid PhysX mod 1.03 available
GenL has finally updated Hybrid PhysX mod to version 1.03 – this release supports 197.xx GPU drivers and lastest 09.10.0222 PhysX System Software.
UPDATE: New Hybrid PhysX Mod 1.04ff available. For 257.21 and newer GeForce drivers.
DESCRIPTION:
This mod will enable hardware PhysX support for NVIDIA GPU, when non-NVIDIA GPU is used as a primary display device.
- intended only for WDDM 1.1 OS (Windows 7) and NT5 WDM OS (Windows XP/2003).
- only for multi-vendor multi-GPU configurations.VERSION HISTORY:
1.03 – 21/04/2010:
- added support for fixing a timebomb, introduced in 196.75 and 197.xx drivers (gravity reverse + overall slowdown after a few seconds of PhysX processing)
- mod will now attempt to patch PhysX System Software files (helps to eliminate desktop extension requirement on Windows 7)
- mod will now disable “nvsvc” service autostart (helps to fix problems with fake displays)
- improved patching process (no more need to reboot in Safe Mode or terminate any process)
- improved patching logic (mod will no more try to patch non-existent files)
- improved accuracy of some patterns to avoid unnecessary patching
You can download Hybrid PhysX Mod 1.03 from our server (2.2 mb) *

Well done GenL. I RMA’ed my 5870 so I can’t test this.
Could I ask how you fixed the extended display? And does it work properly, as from the description it seems you’re not too sure whether extended display has been fixed?

Your way to fix it (with PhysXDevice dlls) seemed to be correct, it gave me a hint, and you can say that my way is similar to yours with these files. Also disabling (setting to ‘manual’) nvsvc seems to help someone to get rid of automatic extension on reboot and PhysX app launch.
It actually works properly, at least for me on Windows 7 x64 (and a few testers) – with various scenarios i’m still ending up with non-extended fake displays and working GPU-PhysX.
I would be surprised if it won’t work for someone on Windows 7 and if it isn’t a result of user’s mistake.

Way to go GenL. I can’t wait to try this out. However I just recieved a refund for my rMA’ed 5870. I’ll have to buy another one on monday.
I’m assuming you did buy an Nvidia GPU in the end? Which one did you buy?

I’m using a GTS 250 1GB for the moment until I sell it to my friend…if I sell it to him at all because he is lagging grrrrr…but I find it does give a performance boost over the 9800 GT 512MB I was using before. I’m running two 5850s in CF with this hybrid set up. Metro 2033 plays nice. For anyone questioning whether hybrids work in Eyefinity or not, it DOES work! I play all my games (at least the ones that support it, Dark Void doesn’t for some reason) and even benchmarks like FluidMark run in Eyefinity with PhysX working just fine.

does memory matter for the dedicated physx card?
i am planning to get a gt 240 either 512mb or 1gb
just wondering at 1920×1080 does memory make a difference?
thanks

I don’t think it matters. You’re only using the card for dedicated PhysX so it’s not like its going to be loading all the textures from the map into memory. Mostly I think the clock speed will affect performance if anything. That’s why a 9800GT or similar is plenty enough for a dedicated PhysX card.

does memory matter for the dedicated physx card?
There were some tests on memory usage of dedicated PhysX card
METRO 199 (mb)
BATMAN 222
MIRRORS EDGE 88
CRAZY MACHINES 2 106
WARMONGER 240
3DMARK CRASH AND BURN 210
so in general, even 256 mb would be enough

Hi all im new to forums due to no net for ages but not at all new to pcs but im having some trouble with my hybrid setup 5870+8600gts (i know not the best physx card but it worked quite well) up until a gta?? patch or bad co2 but regardless ive cleaned all nvidia soft off my pc several times now mostly uninstallin then driver sweepin then checkin prog files etc,
ive installed the gfx card then sometimes physx soft then patched 1.03 or 1.02 yet it seems to have stopped working ive used 156.21 197.13 and 197.45 to no avail its like driver sweeper and my poor use of it poss might have deleted something it shouldnt have, any ideas as it worked perfectly before on 156.21 and 9.09.0814 physx sys soft but wont now im running win7 64bit

Follow GenL’s thread on NGOHQ.COM Forums. He tells exactly what to do. Sometimes it just takes some tinkering to get things working correctly.

Thank you kindly for your hard work. This mod is superb, and I salute your continued efforts and research.
I was running the old 1.2 mod and it was working great for all physx apps.
I use HD 5870 for gfx and GTS 250 for physx.
However, after installing 1.3 mod with the 197 drivers, and version 10 of physx, Mirror’s edge stopped working. Fluidmark was fine though so this is wierd.
I re-installed ver 9 of the physx software, whilst leaving the 197 drivers and the 1.3 mod in place – mirror’s edge worked again.
This is strange, but could we get a tweaked version of the 1.03 mod that restores compatiblity to mirror’s edge?

Hi GenL,
Many thanks for the personal response. I would like to re-iterate how valuable your research and development of the physx mod is. There are many people across the globe who have invested heavily in hybrid physx hardware setups, and your contribution is vital to these configurations.
With regard to the .dll files in the Mirror’s edge, I had already removed these to get Mirror’s edge to work with the previous 1.02 mod and older drivers, so this is not the problem.
The problem may not be related to the physx mod. When I uninstall ver .10 of physx and reinstall .9 version, then mirror’s edge works again (still with the 197 drivers and 1.03 mod installed)
Maybe the .10 physx software itself broke compatibility with mirror’s edge? I’ll check this on my other PC which just has one NV card in it. Since this release is not generally available from NV, and was just shipped with 1 new game, maybe NV broke it for older games???
Please advise of any further debug steps you would have me take. I am keen to be of any help to your project and will be happy to test beta stuff for you if you wish.

I’ve just tested 09.10.0222 on Windows 7 x64, and it’s working fine in Mirror’s Edge.
You didn’t forget you must use the mod v1.03 again after reinstalling PhysX SS, right?

Ok, many thanks – I must have done something wrong -maybe I only patched the 197 drivers and not the 9.10.0222 physx SS, I will try again and get back!

Hi GenL and all,
W7 x64 Home Premium, Sapphire HD5870 Vapor-X + BFG 8800 GTX OC, Asus Commando, C2D E6600, 4xPC2-8500 1G, 10.4 ATI, 197.45 nVidia, 10.0222 Physx, 1.03 patch.
I followed each step and even restarted clean for both ATI and nVidia drivers w/ DriveSweeper and Driver Cleaner, however i still get random lockups/freeze followed either by:
- BSOD by nvlddmkm.sys
- monitor standby.
Happening even at desktop, tried downclocking everything by BIOS and RivaTuner 2.24..now i took 8800 out and i’m confirming ATI-only setup works even with nVidia drivers still installed.
Have you heard of such a situation? I’m waiting for NGOHQ OK to post. Thanks
Schar07
2 May 10 at 12:26 pm
Nevermind, it looks like it’s an issue with the new 5870..i have lockups even with no nVidia card/drivers in my rig.
I am now investigating around my mobo, Asus Commando, which is P965 and is not clear if it is PCIe v1.0 or v1.1a..8800 GTX was OK even with 50% CPU & FSB oc, so it may be that 5870 being PCIe v2.0 doesn’t love my “old” mobo that much..

2 May 10 at 5:36 pm
Hi Schar07
I have basically the same cards as you, HD5870 vaporx and GTS250 (same as 8800gtx) for physx.
I am running both cards on PCIe v2.0 at x8 bandwidth. This is fine with no noticeable perf drop.
You are running on PCIe v1.0 with one x16 and one x4 slot on your commando.
PCI is fully backward compatible, and since PCIv2.0 at x8 equals PCIv1.0 at x16, then your HD5870 is not bottlenecked. It should be fine.
Also, your physx card is maybe going to be slightly bottlenecked at an effective PCIv2.0 at x2 but hopefully not enough to notice.
I conclude that your mobo should fully support your desired GPU and hybrid Physx configuration.
If there is any bottleneck, it will be your CPU.
Can you be bothered to reinstall windows, then install all the graphics drivers again? Also, check your power supply to make sure your 12V rail is not drooping.

Hello.
I’ve installed the mod, according to instruction (in gpu-z open cl + physx with “ticks”) but when I try to run a (different) game – no d3d device error appears. What can be the reason of that?

Hi friends og physxinfo.
First, work and users of this site rocks.
Second, please help me with my UT3 issue.
I’ve recently applied GenL’s 1.03. Works like a charm except in my UT3. Physx disabled it runs. Enabled don’t enven boot up, “UT3.exe stopped working” is the message popped by my W7×64. I’ve patched UT3 with the 5fth patch.
Thanks in advace, keep up the good work.
Greetings from Chile.

You’re talking about pure UT3 or UT3 PhysX Mod ?
If second, make sure that you have proper mod applied – from Nvidia and not older one, from Ageia.

Hi tempchicken,
thanks, after a lot of trial and crashing i am now 5870+8800+GenL working..i had a flawed DRAM stick and OC was too much for this double card setup. Now i run @ 450MHz FSB (3240MHz CPU) with 2GB DRAM only and seems stable.
Mirror’s Edge is now jerky/jumpy when Physx objects enter in view and RivaTuner hw accel detection doesn’t work for the game, like if it is now engaging 3d hw accel. But FluidMark work great. Still trying to understand why this game is so picky

“no d3d device” means problems with your primary GPU. Make sure you installed original driver for your primary GPU and that dxdiag doesn’t detect any issues.

Did you try to delete PhysX files from game folder? Read FAQ for more info on this.

I can confirm that the 257.15 beta driver do work with Hybrid PhysX mod 1.03. Apparently it’s automatic. If you look in the “Manage 3D Settings” there is an option that says, “CUDA – GPUs” which if you read the description it says, “Allows you to specify which GPUs can be used by CUDA applications, including PhysX.”
I just left the ,”Adjust image settings with preview” to “Let the 3D application decide” and hardware PhysX is running just fine.

Thx, ME was fixed but i have not been able in any ways to eliminate nvlddmkm.sys crashed/recovery/BSODs. Reinstalling Win7 for this isn’t worth, neither to change my Commando/E6600/RAM to try to make it work on another HW conbination. I gave up, my BFG 8800 GTX OC2 will be sold for what i can get back.
Goodbye nVidia, a wiser policy would pay back at the end i’m sure.

Waiting 1.04 with maximum patience…before i smash up or sell EN260GTX…yesterday after installing new WHQL all physX support gone like wind, so i trying to rollout to beta, but hardware acceleration in FluidMark still don’t working… Too early was delighted that have let out new the driver with a difference in two days.

At this point in time does the 257.xx beta driver work or has it been “fixed” as nVidia calls it?

has it been “fixed” as nVidia calls it?
They promised not to fix it, because of “overwhelming positive response”.
But WHQL (257.21) was fixed, yes
