Hybrid PhysX Test: by Fudzilla

with 7 comments

Hybrid PhysX related article with provoking title “Nvidia helps the HD 5870 beat the GTX285 in PhysX” can be found at Fudzilla today.

Article itself is nothing particularly special, from our opinion – only one dedicated PhysX GPU was tested, old 1.01 PhysX mod (while 1.02 is available for several months) and old installation guide (while much more detailed can be found easily) were used – still, fact that Hybrid PhysX is now recognized by such popular website like Fudzilla, is memorable enough.

Other Hybrid PhysX links you may refer to:

  1. ~5fps in favor of hd5870 vs “old” gtx285 is hardly a “beating” imo.

also, fudzilla: “After assigning a dedicated 9800GT card for PhysX, we couldn’t change antialiasing with our Radeon card so the tables feature same results in scenarios with and without antialiasing.”

now if you look at AA fps penalty without physx – gtx285 loose 22% while 5870 takes a major 40% hit.
so if hybrid configuration allowed AA in this title, gtx285+9800gt would clearly take a lead.
but no AA at all is even more ridiculous.
so much for Fudzilla’s provoking title.

  2. on 2nd though, if PhysX is holding back cards performances, hybrid config might as well not be affected by AA at all.

anyway, since AA isn’t working for hybrid config at all, the gtx285+9800gt still has better value in this case – cheaper, can do AA and similar performances to the overpriced hybrid config.

  3. It is possible enable native game AA with ATT for Batman, pretty easily.

  4. ^ it is possible, however not in a hybrid (ATI+NV PhysX) setup, at least for this title, according to fudzilla.

  5. According to this fudzilla article, they didn’t even try ATT.

  6. I was relying on the fact AA did work for them with the ATI card alone. this game has no AA settings so it must have been forced in some way or another.
but you are right they didn’t mention ATT specifically, cannot comment on this one.

  7. That’s easy, they used forced AA from ATI CCC, that’s why it cut so much fps for Radeon. It means they are ignoring the fact about vendor-id lock inside the game and those instructions from official Eidos forums… or they are not aware, which is doubtful.
