TressFX, teased few days ago by AMD as "a new frontier of realism in PC gaming" technology, turned out to be realistic hair rendering and simulation solution.

DirectCompute programming language and Per-Pixel Linked-List (PPLL) data structures are used to provide efficient hair rendering techniques.

In addition, DirectCompute is utilized to perform physics simulation of TressFX hair. Massive amount of hair strands can be simulated in real-time, including collision detection between individual strands and character geometry (shoulders, head).

Upcoming Tomb Raider title will be the first game to utilize TressFX Hair technology.
